Virtual, by invitation only
The regional workshop brought together national technical level experts and heads of water departments focused on transboundary water management of interested States from Europe (with a focus on Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and the Balkans) and selected neighbouring riparian States.
The overall aim of the workshop was to promote the exchange of experiences, lessons learned and notable case studies on equitable and sustainable transboundary water allocation, to enhance capacities of participants and cooperation on water allocation in a national and transboundary context and to support the development of a handbook on transboundary water allocation.
Key themes which were covered in the main sessions of the workshop included:
- Equitable and sustainable water allocation in the context of a changing climate
- Environmental flow requirements
- Sustainable groundwater management
- Sustainable hydropower operation
- Water scarcity and drought
- National water allocation linking to a transboundary context
The main outcome of the regional workshop was to enhance cooperation on equitable and sustainable allocation of water resources at national level and in a transboundary context, to enhance the capacity of participants in water allocation and environmental flow requirements and it also helped collecting information, including cases studies, to be considered for the Handbook.
The workshop was held from 5-6 October 2020 in an online interactive format via KUDO.
The languages used for the workshop were English and Russian with simultaneous interpretation.
