Towards strengthening capacities in national urban policy making in CIS region countries

The event is a part of the thematic sessions of the Second International Conference on National Urban Policy, co-organized by the OECD and UN-Habitat. It aims to support countries of the CIS region in strengthening national capacities in developing and implementing policies for sustainable housing and urban development against the background of the Sustainable Development Goals and New Urban Agenda as well as facilitate inter-regional cooperation and transfer of knowledge. The session focused on the aims, first outcomes, lessons learnt and a follow-up to the UNDA 9th tranche project ‘Strengthening national capacities for sustainable housing in selected countries with economies in transition’. 

The event was organized as a panel discussion. The panelists discussed how sustainable housing will become a driver for urban development in their countries and exchangeed best practices in policy formulation and implementation. The event also highlighted the efficiency of joint efforts by the UNECE Committee on Housing and Land Management, UN-Habitat Regional and Metropolitan Planning Unit, and UN-Habitat Project Office in Moscow.
