Mr. Mohamed Najib Boulif, Secretary of State for Transport, Morocco

On 9 May, the Special Envoy traveled to Morocco and met with the Secretary of State for Transport. The Special Envoy provided him an overview of his mandate and key responsibilities, as well as shared about the recent establishment of the UN Road Safety Trust Fund. He further commended Minister Boulif for Morocco’s ranking among top 10 best performing countries in the East-Mediterranean region and encouraged their accession to the remaining three UN core road safety conventions (Morocco is already a contracting party to three out of six). In conclusion, the Special Envoy reminded of the urgency to act towards achieving SDG targets 3.6 and 11.2, considering the approaching deadlines.   
Ms. Violeta Bulc, European Commissioner for Transport
On 19 May, the Special Envoy met with Commissioner Violeta Bulc in Berlin, Germany and provided an update on his recent activities, including the establishment of the UN Road Safety Trust Fund. Commissioner Bulc presented EU’s Third Mobility Package, which, among other initiatives, consists of a new road safety policy framework for 2020-2030, contributing to the EU's long-term goal of moving closer to zero fatalities and serious injuries by 2050 ("Vision Zero"). The Special Envoy welcomed Commissioner’s proposals to advance road safety and emphasized the importance of a coordinated approach, suggesting for the alignment of some measures from the package with UN efforts. Commissioner Bulc expressed her willingness to contribute to setting strategic direction and vision for road safety efforts in the next decade.
