Transition to the Green Economy

The UNECE/FAO Forestry and Timber Section disseminated information about the Rovaniemi Action Plan for the Forest Sector in a Green Economy and the upcoming workshop on “Measuring the value of Forests in a Green Economy” at the Transition to the Green Economy” conference organised by the Slovakian Presidency to the European Council, which took place in Bratislava on 6-7 September 2016.

During the panel on policy actions and the role of governance in transition to a green economy Mr Heikki Granholm presented the Rovaniami Action Plan as a tool for implementation of a green economy in the forest sector.

In addition, together with the Forest Europe, the section organised an information stand in the venue of the Conference. It contained printed and video information about the sections activities covered by the Integrated Programme of Work with a special focus on green economy and copies of the Rovaniemi Action Plan in three languages: English, French and Russian.

Forest Europe and the UNECE/FAO Forestry and Timber Section prepared a joint statement about the role of forests in achieving green economy, which was referred during the panel by Mr Heikki Granholm.
