Workshop on "EU Enlargement: Regulatory Convergence in Non-Acceding Countries"
to be held on 7 - 8 November 2003 in Athens, Greece
The Workshop is organized with the support of the Greek Government and is part of the series of workshops within the UNECE project on a wider Europe.
Common rules and standards are indispensable for ensuring benefits of non-acceding countries from
enlarged EU Internal Market. The Workshop will offer an opportunity to address how to increase economic
cooperation and facilitate trade between the enlarged EU and non-acceding countries through
harmonization of regulatory measures, such as technical regulations and standards, and legislation.
Speakers will consist of the representatives of the European Commission, significant European
universities and international organizations, including the Executive Secretary of the UNECE.
Discussion will be focused on regulatory policy and practices in the EU and their possible extension
to non-acceding countries in the Euro-Asian region.
The Workshop will be held with simultaneous interpretation in English and Russian. There are no fees
for registration.
The senior-level representatives of national Market Regulation or Surveillance Offices, Standardization
Offices or Ministries responsible for standardization and market surveillance policy and legislation and
relevant non-governmental organizations are cordially invited to participate at this event.
