Some information about the national scientific research institute for the meat industry V. M. Gorbatov (VNIIMP)

 

The institute was created in 1930. Its activity today is to develop techniques for the primary processing of the animals, the production of charcuterie, conserves, precooked products, medicines as well as standards concerning all areas mentioned.

 

The institute works under the auspices of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of the Russian Federation.

 

The principal objective of the researchers is to facilitate the development of the Russian meat industry, to stimulate the diversification of the product range and to increase the competitiveness of Russian products through the use of state of the art technology.

 

The modernisation of the national production is based on three main criteria:

  1. Improvement of product quality
  2. Food safety
  3. Reduction of production costs

 

To treat these subjects the institute works in the following areas:

 

Fundamental and applied research

Experimental research

Services to enterprises (under contract)

Promotion and application of research results in the enterprises concerned

Training of managers

Consulting

Scientific and practical cooperation with research centres worldwide

Certification and standardization

Publication of specialized papers/ books

 

The research work is done by the Academy but also by the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology and the Ministry of Agriculture.

The institute is subdivided in five services and has 25 laboratories.

It employs 232 people of which 198-scientists/ researchers.

 

Today the institute cooperates with more than 3000 enterprises dealing with meat transformation. The institute also serves as consultant for all technical and technological questions of the sector and works for whole regions as well as for private industry.

 

To verify the quality of food products and production equipment the institutes disposes of certification authorities and accredited laboratories.

 

The institute also has a print shop and acts as co-editor of the periodicals �Meat Industry�, �All about Meat� and �For the meat industry�.

 

Four experimental plants belong to the institute, two in Moscow, one in Rostov-on-the-Don and one in Uglitch.

 

The institute develops its network of scientific contacts, advises practically all Russian enterprises and cooperates with centres and enterprises in the Ukraine, Belarus, Moldavia, Kazakhstan and the other countries of the CIS

 

It has an excellent reputation among specialists in the sector due to the number of its highly qualified specialists.
