The Specialized Section will also be informed about other relevant events in UNECE, the Working Party on Transport of Perishable Foodstuffs and other organizations dealing with standardization of meat and meat products

The documents represent the result of the meeting of rapporteurs in Rennes, The text has been edited by the secretariat combining general requirements and chicken specific coding provisions. It is expected that the documents can be finalized at this session and proposed to the Working Party for adoption.

The documents are based on the text that was adopted by the Working Party at its 58th session. The text was edited by the secretariat for publication. A number of editorial issues are highlighted and should be resolved before the standard is published.

The text has been edited by the secretariat to align it with the format which is proposed for all UNECE meat standards. A number of errors were corrected and some editorial issues are highlighted and should be resolved before publication of the second edition. It is not intended to discuss a revision of the contents of this standard at this session.

 

Item 6:������������ Draft Revision of the UNECE Standard for Porcine Carcases and Cuts

The secretariat has received a draft document on the revision of the porcine standard from the United Kingdom. The Specialized Section is invited to discuss how to proceed with the revision of this standard.

 


Item 7:������������ Proposal for a UNECE Standard for Llama Carcases and Cuts

The secretariat has received a draft for a UNECE Standard for Llama carcases and cuts from Bolivia. The Specialized Section is invited to discuss how to proceed with this proposal.

Item 8:������������ Information on preliminary work done on different species�����

 

The Specialized Section will be informed about any preliminary work done concerning the development of standards for veal, turkey meat and goat meat.

 

Item 9:������������ Traceability

A document on this issue is expected from the United States. Any other work regarding traceability can be discussed under this agenda item.

 

Item 10:���������� UNECE Mark for Meat

The secretariat will report on discussions with the legal services of the United Nations concerning the proposal from Australia.

 

At the last session it had also been decided that each country would indicate to the secretariat a list of authorities which are recognized by the Government to certify conformity with the UNECE standard. Countries should also indicate any authorities of other countries that they recognize to certify

conformity with the UNECE standard. The lists will be published on the UNECE home page. Up to now no such information has been received.

 

Item 11:���������� Operational Activities

 

The secretariat will inform delegations about planned operational activities in Lithuania and Russia. Lithuania will adopt the UNECE Bovine Standard and is interested in training courses concerning its application. The Russian Federation has invited the Specialized Section to contribute to a seminar on meat cutting in Moscow.

 

Item 12:���������� Preparation of the meetings of rapporteurs and the next session of the Specialized Section�����

 

The Specialized Section is invited to discuss under this agenda item dates and places of the next meetings of rapporteurs and the priorities for future work.

The Russian Federation has also offered to host a meeting of rapporteurs on chicken meat in Moscow in September.

Any proposal brought to the attention of the Working Party can be discussed under this item.

Item 15����������������������� Election of officers

 

According to the Commission's Rules of Procedure and established practice, the Specialized Section is expected to elect a Chairman and a Vice-Chairman. At its eleventh session the Group elected Mr. B. Carpenter(United States) as its Chairman and Mr. I. King (Australia) as its Vice-Chairman.

 

Item 16����������������������� Adoption of the report

 

The Specialized Section will adopt the report of its twelfth session on the basis of a draft prepared by the secretariat.
