Implementation and compliance

Review of Compliance
(Implementation Committee)

The Implementation Committee was established by the Meeting of the Parties in February 2001. The Committee's objective is to review compliance by the Parties with their obligations under the Convention with a view to assisting them fully to meet their commitments.

Review of Implementation

The Review of Implementation is a periodic review based on reports by Parties. These reports are in response to a questionnaire. The review provides information on how the obligations of the Convention have been compiled with, both at the general level and by particular Parties.

The development of a questionnaire was initiated by the First Meeting of the Parties and was intended to collect and analyse information on the application of EIA in a transboundary context with a view to preparing relevant guidance (decision I/6 on adoption of the workplan, "Practical Application of the Convention").

Inquiry Procedure

Appendix IV of the Espoo Convention defines an inquiry procedure - further information.
