The seventh meeting of the Compliance Committee was held on 3 November 2011 in Geneva, back to back with the fourth meeting of the Working Group on Water and Health (Geneva, 1 – 2 November 2011).
Given the difficulties faced by a number of Parties in implementing their obligations under the Protocol, the Compliance Committee decided at its sixth meeting (1-2 March 2011, Geneva) to enhance its facilitation and assistance functions. It agreed on the specific objectives and modalities of the consultation process to be offered to a number of Parties, and to be initiated by a request from a Party.
The main objectives of the seventh meeting were:
- To discuss and further refine the consultation procedure offered to facilitate the implementation of the Protocol;
- To discuss the opportunities and means for a cooperation with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights;
- To consider awareness-raising on the compliance procedure.
