The sixth session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters (Aarhus Convention), the third session of the Protocol on Pollutant Release and Transfer Registers (Protocol on PRTRs) and associated preparatory meetings took place on 11-15 September 2017 in Budva at the kind invitation of the Government of Montenegro. The meeting venue was the Hotel Splendid Conference & Spa ResortThe sessions featured a Joint High-level Segment which was held on 14 September 2017.
The Aarhus Convention and its Protocol provide solid frameworks to assist countries in achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by implementing commitments on access to information, public participation and access to justice regarding a wide range of issues that affect environment and human health.
In this context, the High-level Segment focused on the role of these unique instruments in furthering the environmental democracy throughout the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The thematic session of the High-level Segment had the format of a panel discussion involving ministers, non-governmental organizations and other stakeholders’ representatives with strong expertise in the themes discussed and was followed by a general debate.
