First Subregional Meeting on Environmental Assessments in a Transboundary Context in the Mediterranean Sea

The workshop has been organized by the Italian Ministry of Environment and Energy Security under the framework of the Espoo Convention and its Protocol and in collaboration with the UNEP/MAP secretariat for the Convention for the Protection of the Mediterranean Sea Against Pollution (Barcelona Convention).

The event aimed at promoting cooperation and informal exchange of information regarding the forthcoming or ongoing transboundary environmental impact assessment and strategic environmental assessment procedures of projects, plans and programmes related to the Mediterranean Sea and coastal areas. It also provided an opportunity to improve coherence and links between the Espoo Convention and its Protocol and the Barcelona Convention and its protocols, as well as to facilitate networking among national focal points under the two sets of instruments and other stakeholders.
