The Joint Task Force on the Health Aspects of Air Pollution
Chair: Dr. Dorota Jarosinska
The Joint Task Force on the Health Aspects of Air Pollution was established in 1997 by the Executive Body of the Convention and the World Health Organization (WHO). Its primary role is to assess the health impacts of air pollution and provide scientific documentation to support decision-making under the Convention.
Objectives and activities
The Task Force aims to quantify how long-range transboundary air pollution affects human health, and helps define priorities to guide future monitoring and abatement strategies. It also advises on monitoring and modelling activities to enhance the quality of assessments.
The Task Force brings together experts delegated by countries that are Parties to the Convention. Its work is based on estimates of air pollution concentrations (particularly those produced by the Cooperative Programme for Monitoring and Evaluation of Long-range Transmission of Air Pollutants in Europe – EMEP), and on the results of hazard assessment carried out by WHO.
Coordination and leadership
WHO coordinates and chairs the Task Force.
The revised mandate for the Task Force on Health can be found in EB decision 2019/21.
