Meetings with Government Officials in Jamaica

Following his previous visit in May 2017, the Special Envoy held bilateral meetings with high-level government officials, including the Prime Minister of Jamaica.
The Special Envoy expressed concern with growing number of road traffic fatalities in the country and called for urgent action towards reverting the crisis. He further encouraged the establishment of a regional mechanism for advancing road safety, possibly under the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
The Special Envoy reiterated the importance of accession to and successful implementation of United Nations road safety conventions and encouraged high-level participation at the Global Road Safety Conference in Sweden.
In conclusion, the Special Envoy shared information about the UNRSF and enhanced potential engagement both as a beneficiary and as a contributor. 
The Special Envoy met with the following government officials:

o Mr. Christopher Tufton, Minister of Health & Wellness of Jamaica
