35 countries and the European Community sign
the new UN/ECE Convention on Public Participation

On 25 June 1998, on the occasion of the fourth
"Environment for Europe" Ministerial Conference in
Aarhus, Denmark, 35 countries and the European Community signed
the new UN/ECE Convention on Access to Information, Public
Participation in Decision-making and Access to Justice in
Environmental Matters.
These countries are: Albania, Armenia, Austria, Belgium,
Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia,
Finland, France, Georgia, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy,
Kazakhstan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Monaco,
Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Moldova,
Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, United
Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and the European
Community. The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia submitted a
Declaration in lieu of signing the Convention.
